THE PRINTED WORD / weekend recos

Ahhh it's the weekend!  Time to catch up on emails, web surfing, and my favorite: reading a book.

Here are some good reads that we can recommend:

1- Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter -- this cleverly written novel takes place both in Le Cinque Terre, Italy in the 1960's as well in modern day Los Angeles and weaves a story that intertwines the lives of several individuals each searching for themselves until finally finding one another in the same ending.  It is as riveting as it is heart-felt and once you fall in love with its characters, you won't be able to put it down.

2- Sleeping With The Enemy: Coco Chanel's Secret War by Hal Vaughan -- did you know that Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel had ties to the Nazi party?  That her born name was Gabrielle Chasnel?  That she grew up as an orphanThat she was a personal friend of Sir Winston ChurchillNeither did we!  This well researched and documented account of a fashion icon's drama-filled life is absolutely fascinating, and unnerving.

3- Tom Ford by Tom Ford, Bridget Foley, Graydon Carter, Anna Wintour -- what can we say?  We love Tom Ford.  And who wouldn't want to read about one man's come back and all around kicking ass.  Inspiring.

4- Dad Is Fat by Jim Gaffigan -- funny man Jim Gaffigan renders a self-depricating and humorous cry for help as a father of five children.  His observations are witty and on point and yet somehow do not scare away those who are not yet parents.
