IN CLEAR SIGHT: Warby Parker

Hey, sometimes being hip can be really expensive.  Those thick tortoise hipster frames at Persol start at around $350 and up.  Heck, I recently bought a pair of Dolce Gabbanas for over $400.  It's such a commitment.  I mean, what if you want to change eye glasses as often as your socks?

Solution: Warby Parker eyewear. Conceived by four buddies at Wharton business school, Warby Parker has been delivering high style eyewear at unbelievable prices and - get this - with a social conscience to boot.  Because with every item sold, someone in need of eye glasses will receive one pair, all thanks to their partnership with VisionSpring.

Most of the styles are unisex, here are some of my favorite picks from their new Palm Canyon collection for spring.

NOSE-worthy / Chloé Expansion

No longer up for sale, Chloé has confirmed some ambitious plans for expansion in the near future (according to a recent WWD article).   Plans for a new fragrance, events to propel diffusion brand See By Chloé, new retail concepts, developing the jewelry and footwear lines, and further expansions into China are all in the works.

This comes after several months of reports suspecting that Richemont was planning to sell the company to focus on more profitable hard luxury (watches and jewelry) companies within its portfolio. Perhaps Chloé, which has a big accessories business, is performing better than Richemont expected.  Richemont has confirmed it will provide Chloé with the investment needed to make these developments.

Indeed over recent years the brand has experienced a revolving door of head designers -- Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo (that's when I worked there!), Hanna MacGibbon, and now Waight Keller who seems poised to stay a while longer.  Let's hope so.

#PFW / Lanvin Lust

Is it black?  Is it blue?  Is it plum?  Whatever it is, it is making us salivate.  The models came down the Lanvin runway today just dripping with sensuality, with a slight nod to La Bohème era with the plume hats, dropped waists and full flowing skirts.  Alber has that special touch, a 6th sense.  And we love him for it.

NOSE-worthy / Toujours Glamour

We may never see another time as glamorous and sassy as the era of the supermodels from the 80's and 90's.  So if you are in the mood to relive some of these glory days, fashion photographer Roxanne Lowit, known for her sassy backstage snaps at designer runway shows, has brought a selection of her iconic works to Toronto's Izzy Gallery

The collection captures some silly moments of excess with the likes of Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Shalom Harlow and the gang, although Kate Moss is the true star of the show appearing in almost half of the photographs.

So far one of the buzziest things to happen at Milan Fashion Week was yesterday at Fendi's show where Karl Lagerfeld presented dolls made of fur that were suited up just like him -- mini-Karls, if you will.  Another reason why we love Karl.

Here is the pic that Cara Delevigne tweeted backstage.

OBSESSED / ALAÏA Suede Perspex Pumps

Here is a way to almost look like you are walking on your tippy-toes - kind of like ballerinas do.  Or Michael Jordan did (remember - he used to walk on air?).  Only this way has more style and probably more comfort (referring to poor ballerina girls).  Our favorite detail of this shoe - other than the slightly square toe and generous toe cleavage - is the exposed screw joining the heel to the last.   Lady meets industrial, and it works.

WANG / Objects No. 4

Alexander Wang's fourth collection of 'Objects' has just gone live and we are kind of obsessed.  Dubbed as 'a curation of personal items that fit into our daily lives', I guess somehow I will have to work some of these quirky items into my daily life because, well, they are so cool.  I mean, I don't really take pills on a daily (or even weekly?  monthly?) basis, but I will figure out a way to start so that I can don that gold pill case on my key chain.  And that portable set of shot glasses in a stingray embossed leather case is so finding its way into my girls-night-out shoulder bag.  Some of our other favorite items are the slanted black brass vases, the gold dice set, and the marble coasters.

VENICE / Aman Canal Grande

You arrive by boat (as one should while in Venice) and enter the historic palazzo by the formal porta d'acqua as guests have over the centuries.  Then as you sweep into the vast reception, you will need to take a minute to pick up your jaw off the marble floor.  This is an Aman Hotel, but not as we know it.

Built in the 16th century, the property was later restored in the 19th century by two brothers who refurbished it into the space it is today: Rococo on steroids.  Soaring ceilings with elaborate frescoes, Rubelli-silk wall hangings, Murano chandeliers, ornate stucco, gold everywhere -- and tons of space, which is rare in Venice.  This is because the two adjacent buildings were rased down to create two beautiful garden spaces along the Canal Grande, a true 'oasis' or 'aman' (Sanskit for peacefulness) in the middle of the city center.

However the trip down history lane ends once you enter one of their 24 lavishly furbished rooms, each one different and yet all maintaining a similar muted color palette, sleek modern furniture, and magnificent bathrooms with showers as powerful as rainfalls.  The contemporary vibe also continues on the roof top patio where you can sip Prosecco on modern loungers while enjoying views of Venice that only the best money can buy.

BRIGHT ideas

We love this new collection of colored ceramic light bulbs and paved square lamp bases at Anthropologie.  Very Sesame-Street-meets-Brooklyn-workshop, these cutie pies come in all of the primary colors, plus pink (of course).

BERLIN / Bikini Hotel

Named after the Bikini-Berlin building in which it is situated (sorry, bikini-clad staff is not a requirement of this hotel -- although I am sure that guests are more than welcome to roam about in their own bikinis), this new kid on the block in one of the most diversely cosmopolitan cities in the world has certainly made its presence felt.  Located on the west end of the city near the Tiergarten, the hotel has quickly garnered clients both locally and from afar due to its rooftop bar-restaurant with 360° views of the Berlin Zoo.  But there are several other hangout areas you can check out: the Monkey bar on the top floor for pre-dinner drinks, the critically acclaimed Neni restaurant just beside it, an all-day woodfire bakery serving fresh pastries, or the Burger de Ville where you can nibble on Zempow organic angus beef burgers.  In a design that combines urban with jungle, the super modern 149 rooms -- some of them named 'Jungle' -- offer views of the zoo's ape house and elephant enclosure.  It's definitely a place where you can get in touch with your innder animal.

MOMENT OF / remembering Lee

Four years ago today I was shocked to my very core when I learned about Lee Alexander McQueen's early passing.  So much talent, still so much still ahead of him.  And as the fashion world is gearing up for yet another season of shows, new faces and over-hype, I thought I would take a moment to remember Lee and remind ourselves of how much he is missed.

We love this clip of a fashion-goer wearing ear bling at New York Fashion Week.  Of course her curl-hawk allows us to take full notice of the art on her ear, which is why it is not something that is easy to pull off.  Plus there is the oversized round reflective shades and the green fur which takes it to a whole nother level.  We like.

Here are our favorite ear cuff pieces in stores now:

1- RYAN STORER Swarovski ear cuff $320

2- FASHION UNION noen feather ear cuff £6

3- AMERICAN EAGLE rose gold spike ear cuff $14

4- BJORG knight ear cuff $368

5- NASTY GAL crystal ear cuff $15
