PALERMO // Botteghe Colletti

So you really need to go to this bar.  Don't even bother reading the rest of this post.  I mean, I would definitely like you to do so.  But it's not necessary.  Because Botteghe Colletti is the bar you need to go to when you are in Palermo.

There.  Are we done?  No? Ok.  I'll keep going.

Red theatrical curtains, old wooden cabinets and flickering candles in old gin bottles.  Located in a former haberdashery established in 1907, this dive bar is always busy and apparently, it's also always open.  Even if you come at the brink of aperitivo hour (usually around 7pm), you will be hard pressed to find a place to sit -- whether inside or out.  And when it's after 10pm?  Forget about it.  Standing room only.  But you will want to get there for aperitivo, because the home-cooked goodies are simply delish.

We were greeted by nothing but warmth from owner Vincenzo (that's him in the cover photo above), whose presence is always felt even if he isn't immediately visible.  And the bar's energy is almost palpable, because everyone seems to be in such a good mood.
