PALERMO // Fud Bocs

It's not easy to find this diamond in the rough. Squeezed somewhere between Palermo's newly refurbished marina and their sprawling waterfront of family sports-filled soccer fields and playgrounds, Fud Bocs feels like you're at a mini resort -- only there are no hotel rooms and you are at the mouth of one of Europe's oldest ports.

Fud Bocs is itself a food truck (or food trailer, as it were) which is the first thing that you see upon entering this little cocktail oasis.  The menu is a simple assortment of fish or beef burgers & tacos, and hand-cut fries.  We indulged in the deluxe fried squid burger with a custom relish that is so mouth-watering, I am having a hard time writing this sentence without my mouth filling with saliva.

Immediately adjacent is a small stage with dance area, surrounded by sofas, lounge chairs, and a variety of pallets-come-seating arrangements. Directly along the water there is a beach with even more palletted seating, along with a couple of bars and then a deck extending over the water with proper tables and chairs.  Not to be forgotten is the WWII pill box (or machine gun bunker, for those who are less in-the-know on war jargon), empty for now but likely full of stories we may never hear.

At night the space sparkles with lanterns and pendant lighting, while the stars twinkle above.
